This does not work save your money the associate pretends to call and you are getting the room you should have begun with. I tried this and was told that I had to place the too on counter for camera to see. Wait person at the Ceasars palace attempted to make a fake call and pretend he was helping. He took the money and gavel the same room as my co-workers

Walked up to the desk to checkin and at first she offered an upgrade for an extra $40 per night said no and she continued with checkin...gave me my total and the resort fee was $100 for the weekend. I asked if anything could be done about this and she said it was standard. Started pulling the $20 out my wallet and she quickly removed the resort fee and asked if we wanted to be upgraded to a double queen bed room (it was 4 girls) for free! I was nervous to try this trick but definitely worth it! I was only hoping for the resort fee to be removed but got upgraded for free which made our weekend even more amazing! (I was celebrating my 21st birthday with my friends)

I'd thought December was a less crowded month and so decided to book a three night stay by myself. When I went to the front desk, the receptionist asked for my ID and when I gave her the sandwich, she returned my credit card and the $40. I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades and she went to the back to ask her manager. That's when I knew it was a bust since the last time I received an upgrade, the receptionist was able to do it on the spot without going anywhere. She came back and said the most she could give me was a nice view which I interpreted to mean the strip but it ended up being something facing the back of the hotel. It's possible maybe she was new on the job and didn't want to risk it or maybe the operation at Bally's has cracked down on the twenty dollar trick since the last successful review was written in 2014.

Slid the $20 to the check in lady and she said she would check on her system. It worked. Upgraded from the 6th floor to the 20th with view overlooking the strip and bellagio fountains. Not sure if it was a different size room but I'm assuming it was. Also we had a 3rd guest and she waived the 39.95 nightly fee for the roll-away bed. All in all we had a room higher up and saved 159.80 on the roll-away bed. Success.

I am a front desk agent and this $20 sandwich is not only insulting but also a huge job risk. You guys don't realize that we are putting our jobs on the line to accept these "tips" for comp (what you don't realize to be possible job termination) upgrades. Yes it's that serious in this town. Have some decent respect for who you're propositioning and make it worth their while for doing you a favor. It may be the difference in you receiving a cheap upgrade the first stay and a complimentary upgrade the next.

First time doing the trick, as the girl at the checkin desk asked me for ID and credit card, I gave her the cards along with a $20, and asked if they have complementary upgrade. She set the cards and money to the side of her keyboard and said, let me check. After few minutes, she found us a Luxury room, which is 2 grades above our original basic room. So, we were pretty happy, and said thank you, as she grabbed the $20 and smiled. The whole time, she set the money on her desk, so I knew her intention was to take the money only if she found us a free upgrade. After we got into our room, there was a very strong smoke smell, supposed to be nonsmoking. I went back down to the girl at front desk and told her about the smoke smell. She said it could be air circulated from the floor above(which is a smoking floor), so she checked her computer again, and eventually gave me a suite with a jacuzzi in it--this is really nice room. My wife and I were both very happy about the suite. Best $20 ever spent. I will be doing the $20 trick from now on!

We booked a standard double queen, and when we checked in I offered the sandwich and the desk lady (who was already VERY nice) said thank you, and then waived our late check-in fee and upgraded us to a gorgeous deluxe double strip view room on the 23rd floor overlooking the Bellagio fountains. We also tipped our housekeeper well every day and she comped us a coffeemaker when we saw her carting one after someone else had checked out. It's Vegas - anyone who does anything for you should be offered a tip, and there are standards for that ($1 per drink in the casino, $20 to the desk, $3-$5 per night depending on how messy you are to the housekeeper, $5 to valet parking, 15-20% on service (even buffets, those folks work their butts off clearing plates and serving drinks), 10% of your winnings to your table host on cards or the slot attendant or at least side bets for them, etc. - it's a service economy). I'm not sure the $20 trick is really tricky, it just makes good sense. It would probably be helpful if you're having trouble getting into a restaurant that technically takes walk-ins but is often full, like Mon Ami Gabi.

ID + $20 bill + Credit Card + "Are there any complimentary upgrades available" = Renovated Jubilee tower, 2nd floor from the top, with a RIDICULOUS strip view. I asked for a suite, she said the only one available was in the other tower and that (with a wry smile) "I think you'll be quite happy with this room." I took her word for it and I'm happy I did. My friends refused my advice (even after I told them I'd pay them the $20 back), and got a view of a parking lot from the not-so-nice tower.

The woman we got to checking with was right next to the managers so that made me extra nervous. Slipped her the $20 between my cc and id. Asked I she had any complimentary upgrades. We had originally booked 2 bed but she asked if we wanted a Jacuzzi and she could send up a rollaway which was fine with us. Our suite was in what I guess is the older tower but was very nice. Even had a bidet! The view was good too and we could see the Bellagio fountains! Thanks to this website I will definitely be using this trick again!

First time trying the $20 trick and it was a success. Waited in the check-in line and since there was about 5-8 people in front of us we could not choose the front desk person. An older lady assisted us at the desk and I handed here the $20 between my ID and credit card. Then asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She saw the $20 bill and said thank you. Then said she would "Put us in something nice." I had originally booked a Deluxe 2 Queen room in the North tower. After some typing on the computer she said she had a Junior Suite available on a lower floor for an extra $25 dollars a night. I said I would take it. The Junior Suite was bigger than we expected and had a really nice sized bathroom and wet bar area. Upon checkout there were no extra $25/night charges!!!

Great lounge chair AND TV in my bathroom mirror. No questions asked, person at front desk knew EXACTLY what to do. I tried it in Mexico too and it totally worked as well. I am so astounded that this worked! We passed over a $20 bill with the credit card and ID, and the bill fell out onto the shelf--and then disappeared like magic. Seriously, the check-in woman could go head to head with David Copperfield in the 'make a $20 bill vanish' trick, and win. We asked about the complimentary upgrade and specified that we wanted to stay in the Pyramid rather than the Towers (because, hey, we can stay in a rectangular hotel any old time, but there's only one Pyramid). She immediately obliged with one of the 'corner' Pyramid rooms--very spacious, a suite with a giant tub overlooking the end of The Strip. Impressive! The suite had a fridge, but no coffee maker. That turns out to be something to haggle for at the Luxor (only the select few rooms have a coffee maker in the room).

When he asked for my ID, I handed it to him, and then I asked for a complimentary upgrade while sliding my credit card and the $20 over to him. He was very appreciative and upgraded us to the Grand Suite. I was giddy with excitement and so proud of myself afterwards, lol. This definitely works. I went to check in and asked if there was any complimentary upgrades. I was a bit nervous when she walked away for nearly 5mins (I'm guessing to get mgr approval?), but she came back clicked around on the computer and upgraded my standard room to a suite. I was pumped this actually worked, but when I got to the room, I was a bit disappointed. It was a room that hadn't been remodeled yet and had clear early '90s decor. The bathroom was completely wide open with no privacy. So if you can, try asking to at least be upgraded to the North Tower for free. The rooms in the North Tower are really nice and were as large as our "suite". The 2 guys I stayed with thought our room's bidet was fancy though, so I guess there's that. The trick works, but you never know what you're going to get. I would still do it again though.

We got there, were told we were going to be in a remodeled room, which we were not. And to top it off we got a handicap room. I am 5'9" and my husband is 6', the shower head came up to our shoulders. We asked for an updated room, not handicap and were hoping for an upgrade too. No go. Pretty disappointed. The gal did give us the $50.00 back. When I approached the front desk clerk, he asked me for my ID, so I handed him my ID and credit card with a $20 bill sandwiched in between and said that if there were any complimentary upgrades, I'd really appreciate it. He smirked when he noticed the $20, but didn't say anything, so I didn't know if it was going to work. He typed away and printed up my information (still saying nothing about the tip) and he circled the room number and told me he'd be there all weekend if I needed anything else. I left the front desk totally unsure if the trick had worked or not, but as soon as I reached the elevators and my room, I knew it had. I originally booked the cheapest room I could find in the South Tower and my new room was on the 21st floor in the North Tower with a great view of the strip! All in all, the $20 tip was definitely worth it. This room would have costed me around $25 more per night and I was there for 3 nights, so this was a deal! Give it a try!

Caucasian Women, mid to late 40's. Friendly (They all are at Ballys). Slipped her $60. We had 5 guys/2 rooms. Booked online got South Tower rooms. She tried to get us in a Suite or some sort so we could all stay together. After 10 minutes she showed me that nothing could be done in that regard. She showed me a print out from the Manager and the computer screen (Mothers Day wknd perhaps) Totally booked. So she moved us to the North Tower, with one room in between us. GREAT. I then asked if we could have a complimentary Roll away for the the 5th guy and she said No Problem with a smile (that alone would have been $60 for the 4 nights.) She said it will be there shortly. We were in =our room for 3 muntes and there was a knock on the door with the rollaway. Best money we spent, even tho it was all full she worked HARD to get us close together and something better. Awesome.

worried that it wouldn't work I slipped the cash between and handed it over to a lovely dark haired lady and asked for an Upgrade to North Tower, she hesitated and separated the sandwich on the counter and did some button pressing, with a smile and "thank you for staying at Ballys" she handed me the keys to a 7th floor north tower king,,,then it got ugly, the next morning my message light was lit to see the manager...I went to the desk and spoke with George who had survellence photographs of me checking in and a zoom shot of the $20...I was asked if the $20 was for the upgrade and the employee in question had already been suspended...I feel awful that someone lost their job over this...be careful

We had reserved a standard room, but when we checked in, I handed the clerk a $20 sandwich and asked about comp upgrades. She looked at her computer for a couple of minutes, then said that she could move us into the North Tower and had junior suites available on the 15th floor (facing the Bellagio) and the 21st floor (facing the North Strip). Being that it was my first time in Vegas, I forgot about the fountains and took the 21st floor--oops. We still had a great view of the pyro from the TI show, though. Sweet upgrade for a sweeter price.

Said it was and asked if there were any comp upgrades available, she said she would see what she could do. My husband had used the 20 dollar trick before and it worked like a charm at Excalibur. This trip was for our anniversary and we booked at Bally's. The first time we were so nervous, but this trip we were totally excited to try this trick again. We decided to tip 40 this time because we wanted to try and get a Jr. Suite. We checked in around 4 pm on a Monday. The clerk was a 40ish caucasian lady but she looked happy so we thought "What the heck?" I went to call and check on the kids while my husband went to the desk. He slipped the 40 between his ID and CC and explained to the clerk that it was our 8th anniversary (true) and was there anything she could do to make it special for me so I would enjoy myself and stop worrying about the kids. She started typing away, smiled and said of course she could make it special! She thanked my husband for the tip and handed over the room key. We were on the 25th floor...the top floor, the only thing above is ballrooms and confrence rooms. We get to our room and open the door and the first thing that hit us were the STAIRS!!! Yep, 2 story penthouse, 2 bathrooms, floor to ceiling windows, loft bedroom with king bed, dining area, full living room, and a wet bar!!!!! We find out later from housekeeping that this room is not available to the general public and is reserved for celebrities and high rollers!!! Oh, and did I mention the view of the fountains at the Bellagio on the right and the Eiffel Tower at Paris on the left???? It was amazing. We had 4 nights in this amazingly beautiful penthouse. Best 40 we ever spent!!!

We couldn't believe how easy this was!! There were a lot of people around so I was a little nervous to do it, but I went for it. The front desk clerk knew exactly what to do and was really nice about it. To be fair, he was very pleasant before we gave the $20. I just slipped the $20 between my ID and CC and in one fluid motion, he slipped the $20 into his pocket. He even moved the rest of our party to the North Tower (even thought they checked in before us - without the $20 tip). Thanks for this website!

We were staying for 5 nights and our room was already very cheap because of our player's card. We were only paying $105 total. We had reserved a room for our friends at a deep discount also. We got the young guy at the check-in desk. I told him I had reserved both rooms and that one was for my friend. I handed him my license and two twenty dollar bills and asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. He got a huge smile on his face and said, "Yes there are!" We both got junior suites in the north tower. My view wasn't great (we faced a roof), but we didn't care. The room was very nice and it was great to have an additional sink and vanity area.

The receptionist gave us both bigger rooms and refused to take both $20 dollar bills!! This hotel is not as posh as some but is clean, there is a shuttle bus that takes about 10 mins to get to the strip, the food is fantastic and cheap, apparently most taxi drivers go there to eat.it has a nice pool, and a massive bowling ally. I approached a young girl, had the 20 showing under my License and cc and asked if any upgrades were available. She separated the 20 and put it in front of her and then said she just had a mini-suite. I didn't know what that was, she said it was a bigger room. I took it. Turned out to be a regular room with same furniture but the bed was in a separate room. Basically the living room had a bunch of floor space but nothing else. Arrived about 9pm from airport after a liquor store run. Line was long, Avon convention at Bally's. Went up to clerk, female- Arabic- mid thirties. Pleasantries back and forth. Gave her cc/$20/id. She looked at it and I said-Any comps available? She said -Let me look. We can get you in an upgrade, but two days later-Tuesday-you'll have to check out into another room. No problem. Got the bellhop to take our suitcases up to the room. Got in and it was GREAT! Suite with full bar-three couches-table with 4 chairs-facing Paris tower-bedroom had sunken tub-two separate sinks-bidet-full shower. Tuesday go down-go over the same drill, cc/$20/id. New clerk says let me see. Comes back-You can stay there the next two days. I'll always go to Bally's!

Had a comped standard room at Bally's. I was in line with the sandwich and the money exposed when one of the clerks made a motion to me to wait for her to help me. Since it was Labor Day weekend, I decided to try with $40 instead. I gave her the sandwich with the money exposed and asked for any upgrades. She worked her magic and was able to get me an 1,100 sqft suite in the South Tower! I also checked in for a friend and used another $40, and she upgraded them to a 1,400 sqft suite!

Reserved the standard North Tower room on line. When I got there I noticed the parking garage sort of empty (good for me) so when I got to the front desk I provided my credit card and asked her if she was allowed to accept tips. She said yes. So I handed her a twenty and commented on any upgrades would be appreciated. She told me the parlor room was bigger, had a fridge, and top floor with view in the south tower. Normally this would cost $30 more a night, but she comped it for me.

At first I was too chicken to try this. So I checked in and assumed the hotel would be full due to the holiday. I got my south tower room number and had to wait for it to be ready. An hour later I got tired of waiting and got the courage to try it. I went back through the line and set a $20 next to my original paperwork. He got me into a renovated north tower room immediately. He said it was a junior suite but I can't really tell. It just looks like a deluxe room. But either way, it's definitely worth the extra $20!

My husband and I had booked a standard regular room in the south tower. we went with another couple who had booked the same thing. They checked in first and asked about complimentary upgrades without tipping/a $20 tucked in his license. They were upgraded to a King room in the North Tower on a lower level (10th or 11th floor) towards the rear of the hotel without much of a view. We checked in next with the $20 tucked under the license and asked about upgrades. We were given a front corner room right on the strip in the north tower with great views of Caesars, Flamingo, Wynn, IP, and the Hilton. The extra $20 was worth it!

Had stayed at the Mirage for three nights and then headed over to Mandalay for four nights. Tried the twenty dollar sandwich at Mirage and it worked great. Tried at Mandalay and was told we don't do that here. When I was checking out at noon there were multiple people checking in and everyone was being upgraded to a Suite at the Hotel without asking. I thought you could not check in until late afternoon. Turns out checking in early maybe the key to get an upgrade as they don't have enough clean standard rooms. I will be going back in April 2010 and will check in at noon. I will also try the sandwich trick again.

Not much of an upgrade I guess - at least we got moved up to a renovated room. What bummed me out is that we were given a king room for our first night (we checked in late - like midnight), and were told that the next night we'd be given a 2-bed suite on the Platinum floor. If a room halfway up the tower with 2 beds is a "suite on the Platinum floor", then that's what we got. I guess I still can't complain though - at least we didn't end up in the South Tower

Good thing for us that Vegas is really dead now... we had the choice of part of a suite or a large deluxe room in North Tower. You know the hotel room is nice if it has clean white sheets with a solid color bedspread :) I really liked the two sinks, one by the makeup counter, and all the granite in the bathroom :)

I held onto the $20 while asking for a free upgrade to a renovated room in the North tower ($20 was visible to the clerk) The clerk found a Deluxe room in the north tower for me, but I asked what else was available. I told her we were upgraded to a Petite Suite during our last stay and would love to get that type room again. She continued to look after telling her that the view was not that important but would be a nice bonus. After 5 minutes, she found us a petite suite (refrig, coffee maker in the wet bar area). Although I would of given the tip for the Deluxe room, I think holding onto the $20 helped getting the petite suite that I wanted. This was my second tip trick success at Bally's.

I was a little nervous about this trick that I saw online but figured I would lose $20 just as fast in the slots. We stayed at Planet Hollywood Feb 2008. I asked the girl what my chances were for a free upgrade with my $20 in hand, very obvious. She said that they only had queen deluxe rooms but she might be able to get me in the renovated area. Then she asked for a credit card for incidentals and I handed her the $20 with my card. She seemed a little surprised but then said "wait let me see what else I can do". She then proceeded to show me she was moving me to a suite that was normally $80 a night extra. I told her she was very helpful. The room overlooked the strip and it was the coolest room we ever stayed in with 2 completely separate sinks and a soaking tub. The king size bed and flat screen tv were also wonderful additions, not that we were actually in the room that much it is Vegas after all. Definitely worth the extra $5 a night that it cost.

She immediately seemed legitimately frightened, profusely apologizing for the remaining 5 minutes during my check in, saying she cannot do that because she had heard of people getting fired for giving out complimentary room upgrades. She ended up giving me an offer to stay in north tower for 10/night, and i still tried to tip her in the end ten bucks but she refused. considering ballys has a very high success rate, i still plan on trying again
