Circus Circus is on the north end of the Strip and is geared towards the family crowd.

|The Twenty Dollar Trick Results|
I passed $20 with my passport & credit card, which was given back to me immediately and I was informed the hotel was fully booked. I made small talk while checking in and asked if any better rooms were available - after a very quick search on the computer, I was asked if a single (queen) bed would be suitable. As I was traveling alone I said yes and was upgraded for free.
First of all, circus circus is a bit of a dump, but I tried the $20 trick, and it worked! He lowered the resort fee $26 and upgraded our room to a better location in the west tower (although the room isn't great looking, I can't imagine how bad the motor manor lodge place was)

NOT CIRCUS CIRCUS!! RIVIERA, there was no option for the Riv I booked the trip through Travelocity. Not sure if they'd upgrade since it was through a 3rd party I figured I'd give it a try. Coming up on the big concrete convention, I figured they were booked solid, the line to check in was insanely long at around 1pm, but it went quickly. The auto check in was available but nobody seemed to be using it. I got the front of the line in about 10 minutes, there were about 6-7 clerks working. I got a younger, late 20s early 30's clerk, handed him my id and debit card, with the $20 obviously available. He thanked me and said he would see would he could do. He originally offered me a room in the upgraded area, but I am a smoker and said I need a smoking room. He then said he'd look for a studio suite. He must have a nothing available because it took a couple minutes then offered a 1 bedroom suite in the Mediterranean tower, which I accepted. Best part of this was the $17 daily resort fee doesn't apply to these suites apparently, so the $20 got me the bigger room and saved me $65 (17x5 nights=$85-$20 tip). The suite was not updated, kind of raggedy for a suite. Wifi was nonexistent. But it was cool being in a room that had double doors haha! In addition, I signed up for their players card, lost a couple hundred and was assigned a host, they comped me meals and a few show tickets on top of it! Major plus!
Worked for me at Circus Circus! Not the fanciest hotel but they have supposedly remodeled the West Tower so I booked a standard room there. Upon check in, I handed the check in person a $20 and asked if there were any upgrades possible. He made a very concerted effort and put me in a suite which was a big room, with a king size bed, and big bathroom and jacuzzi tub.

Girl let me in. She also gave me a wine bottle
We booked at the Riviera Casino Hotel for 4 days. I made a nice sandwich and presented to the lady. She immediately became quite friendly. I asked for upgrade and she got me a top floor pool facing luxury room in the Monaco Tower. All for just $5 a day. Worked great and we had a good time. I highly recommend the trick.
$20 trick done at LVH (formerly the Hilton)(for some reason not an option in the dropdown box)Again, NOT Circus Circus, this was at LVH. Got Upgraded from Standard to Grand Room and resort fee was waived for all three days. For $20 got $105 worth of a better room!! So easy! This was for Monday through Thursday, so availability may be only issue.

I've always recommended the 20 dollar tip trick, and both times I've tried it has been a success. First time at MGM Grand, and now Circus Circus. I made small talk, told her it was my girlfriends first time in LV (which was true), was very polite, and when she asked for my ID and CC i slipped in the 20 and asked "Are there any complimentary upgrades available?". She then checked for the room, asked her supervisor, then told me she was going to upgrade me. So greatfull it worked, otherwise each time we left the hotel, we would have had to walk about a half mile to our Car. Awesome trick, will ALWAYS do this when going to Las Vegas!
The weekend we stayed here, the rates were much higher due to a NASCAR® event; we purchased a lower-cost Manor Room for the night and weren't expecting the trick to work due to crowds. However, after doing "the trick", we were immediately upgraded to a top-floor West Tower room, which were going for about $100 more!
I was pretty unsure of this working because of MLK day weekend, but the guy behind the counter smiled as I asked for a complimentary upgrade and happily upgraded for me. I can't believe how easy this was!
Worked great, the clerk even returned the $20!
Checked in to the Riviera and wanted to make sure I had a nice 2-night stay. I was worried I would have to check in using a kiosk, thus making the trick hard to use. Thankfully I checked in with a woman, asked about any possible upgrades. Handed the CC , $20, and Id as I mention I'd heard great things about the monoco tower. She thanked me for the tip and checked what was available. She set me up in monoco, mini suite. Which she called "a much nicer room". Success!

It was very easy. They took the money and gave an upgrade.
My boss booked the cheapest thing she could find for CES so she booked Motor Manor. I slipped the $20 between the cards and asked if he could check for any complimentary upgrades. He hit some keys, said he could put me above the main casino instead of way in the back at the Motor Manor.
Was easy and worth it !!

I booked a standard room was upgraded to a high floor room. With the class of Circus Circus maybe it should be the $5 trick!
Worked great, the receptionist even returned the money (of course I handed it back). Upgraded to the Casino Tower, excellent!
