Vegas Junky Hotel Review
|The Twenty Dollar Trick Results|
Sorry, it's mot the Harra's but my hotel was not in the list. We checked in at the LINQ, and our 20 Bucks got us a king suite (seperate room, 2 bathrooms). Wonderful room worth about 500$ per night (the room se paid for was 200$ average per night)

Definitely worked!!!! Got the classic standard room online. When I arrived I put the $20 tip between my credit card and I.D, and it worked! Now I have a two room suite with a jacuzzi tub overlooking the Mirage Volcano! Awesome upgrade
This was done at the LINQ. (No option to choose linq) Anyway, I felt like finally testing this method out. I arrived around 7pm and slipped a $20 under my ID. The lady was sweet. We had a nice conversation and i asked her if there was any available complimentary uprgades. She told me she will see what she can do. She put my $20 aside and played with the computer. After a bit of time she told me she it was my lucky day and gave me the suite. Awesome.
Worked great, upgraded to a suite near elevator in The Carnival tower.
Sort of a success. We tried the $20 trick with Mark (front check in lead). We got in pretty late about 12:30am. I slipped him the $20 and he preceded on checking what they had. He told me they had no more suites left and was very apologetic! He told me what he can do was waive the resort fees! $40 for the 2 days stay! He also gave me 2 free buffets! He saw that the only rooms he had left non smoking was a handicapped room that had no bath tubs in the bathroom. Walk in shower. Didn't make much of a difference. He again felt bad and gave me an additional 2 more buffets! 4 total $100 value! So he saved me $140 for $20!! He then asked me if I wanted change for the $20 I gave him. I told him no, he can keep it! He said but I didn't give you a room upgrade. I told him, no worries, you did enough to help! He was very nice!
Slipped the $20 between my id and credit card, asked "are there any complimentary upgrades" and presto, Junior suite. That easy.

We approached the lady at the desk (mid 30's - early 40's) and asked if they had any complimentary upgrades. My friend (D) was unprepared, as they had just opened up a new desk for us so that we wouldn't have to wait. He handed her the CC and ID, and awkwardly put the $20 on the counter. She grabbed it and put it next to the keyboard, and said "let me see what's available." We got upgraded to a suite with a king bed and a couch that pulled out into a bed. The living room with the couch was separated by a door leading to the bedroom. We had a t.v. in each room, and a tv was imbedded in the bathroom mirror, so you could watch ESPN while brushing your teeth. Pretty freaking cool.
He asked for my id and debit card. I gave him the 20 underneath. It was a nice room, looked straight across from Caesars.
This was Harrah's Atlantic City. I looked online ahead of time and knew they were already sold out of suites so I didn't expect anything more than a premium upgrade. It worked like a charm.
This review is for Planet Hollywood, which owned by Harrah's. The $20 trick upgraded us from the cheapest room to the next nicer room with a strip view. The his and hers sinks was worth the $20
It worked! Was so nervous waiting in line to reach the front desk. put the bill between ID and CC and politely asked if anything was available, lady accepted and upgraded us! Gonna try it again at the end of the month!
Did this at planet hollywood on 5 July 2011 worked like a charm.
Didn't work. Clerk said the company sent out an email telling their employees not to do it.
Didn't expect an upgrade given the recent posts as well as it being Memorial Day weekend. Did the typical sandwich, made small talk, asked for the complimentary upgrade. The money was given back and was told I could upgrade for a price. I declined and ended up with a Carnival Tower room at the very end of the hallway that had a partial strip view of Mirage/TI. Nothing special, and probably will never say here again.
This did not work at the Flamingo. The gentleman at the desk was older, in his 60s, and took my $20. While the room did face Caesar's and was on a high floor, the room itself was awful. It was not one of the newer rooms, I never had housekeeping for the duration of my stay, and I had to beg for towels. Maybe the desk guy thought the view of a hotel I wasn't staying in was the upgrade?
THIS IS FOR ----FLAMINGO---- I checked in around four the hotel was actually fairly well booked. I had reserved a King bed room...which they mentioned as we lined up for check in were very limited. I did the sandwich and was told no problem he was very pleasant and thanked me for the tip. This was for four nights. Not a Go room so I got a bigger room (as opposed to a nicer Go Room). Room was average a bit worn down.
I handed $20 over and she made a call. She asked if she could use a promotion blah blah blah. This was my 3rd stay at Harrahs. The first time I got a standard double queen room. The second time I got a free upgrade to a petite suite (no $20 trick). Both rooms were pretty large. This time she claimed I got an uprade into the newer tower. Mardi Gras tower? Well guess what? It sucked. It was newer. I got a plasma TV instead of an old CRT, but the room was tiny as hell. Not really an upgrade in my opinion. Could've saved $20, but at least it worked kinda?
got to harrahs around midnight, only one person at front desk(older asian lady)gave her a $20 sandwich and asked for a complimentry upgrade.Kept the money and said she could put me and wife in mini-suite,asked her for a view and got 4th floor overlooking roof and garage! wife was tired so didn`t switch rooms.really disappointed, however it was very quiet which we liked. Will stay elsewhere next time for sure.
No upgrade, $20 handed back instantly
Superbowl Weekend... Tried the $20 trick. The girl looked around and handed it back to me saying since it was the busiest weekend of the year, it was not possible.
I actually stayed at Flamingo, but there's not option for that one. Asked about upgrades while holding a 20 in my hand, was offered go room for 30 extra a night. I declined, and then he offered a premier suite on the 27th floor facing the beautiful pool. I didn't have to give him the twenty but i did, because i would have felt bad otherwise.

When I handed the receptionist my ID and credit card I slipped the 20 dollar bill in with it and asked her if there were any complimentary upgrades, she handed the 20 back and said they are not allowed to do complementary upgrades. It didnít seem to surprise her, so I think she has been in this position before and that management might be telling them that they are not allowed to give upgrades.
Super Easy! Handed the guy a $20 and we got upgraded to a Junior Suite with a King bed and a printer in the room, lol. Also had a couch. Very nice, large room.
Tried this with a $50 at the Flamingo. It was my daughter's 21st bday and I wanted her to have a Go Room for three nights. Thought a $50 would seal the deal but ended up having to pay the $40 upgrade fee. And the clerk sucked that $50 right up. So dissapointed. That's why HET is losing my business.

Tried at first to ask for upgrade. Woman said there were none. Before even slipping the $20, shot the $hit w/ her and complemented her quick typing skills on the computer. I then asked if there were remodeled rooms in the hotel, to which she said yes but it would be two kings rather than the one queen my girl and i reserved. we happily said no problem. She said she would put us near the pool.. Turned out to be on the 3rd floor with a sliding glass door out to the pool and hot tubs and a private patio w/ 2 sun bed chairs . Room also had a 46" flat screen in main room and a smaller flat screen in bathroom along w/ granite. Just shows that being super nice to the person checking you in (and occasionally a $20) can get you a nicer room. By far my best upgrade yet.
Long story short, was upgraded from the Roman Tower to the Palace Tower at a minor additional cost. Was told that they no longer have the power to give free upgrades with out front desk supervisor approval (Need to platinum, 7 Diamond, etc). A new policy within the last couple weeks. May be BS but they would not budge this time. Last time it was a different story. Received the upgrade to Augustus.
Note: at Flamingo, but since flamingo isn't on here and is a lot like Harrahs...We did the typical deal and he looked around and didn't give us anything. He said he got us a room closer to the elevator, but it really wasn't even too close. Was worth the try, but no success.

Since the Sahara is not listed here, I just put it under Harrah's (same company). Put the $20 between CC and license, asked if there was any upgrades avail, and he said, "How about the Penthouse suite?". WOW!
Checked in for two nights and requested a Suite upgrade. Receptionist had to get management approval, but upgraded us to an awesome three room suite, with a great view.
Booked a standard room. I went to the management desk, to the left of the main check in desk, spoke with a mgr, gave him the $20.00. We asked for a renovated room with flat screen tv's, he said he took care of it for us. we got to our room and had a great view of the parking garage and the room was not upgraded from what we could tell.
I had a new clerk. He didn't know what the $20 was for, and it was my first time trying it so it was all rather awkward. We were given the wrong room in the right tower (two queens instead of one king). When we requested the room that we reserved we got a room that was old, small, cramped and horrible. We won't stay there again.
