I checked in (at the Wynn Registration instead of Encore since that's where we were dropped off). I handed Kelly (young lady, brunette, in her twenties) a $20 with my credit card and ID and asked for there were any 'complementary upgrades available'. She said "what upgrades?"...I had to repeat complimentary louder to her. So she looked through her system after putting the $20 aside. And offered us a suite on the 15th floor facing the strip. That was NOT an upgrade. I asked if any tower suites were available...she offered a salon suite for an extra $250/nt or a panoramic suite on the 38th floor not facing the strip for an extra $35/nt. Again, NOT complimentary, but maybe she didn't understand the concept of complimentary. Disappointed, but we did already have a discounted rate on our existing room with comps ($139/nt, 2 la reve tix, $50 credit). So I guess we can't have it all.

Booked a standard room on Travelocity, and decided to give this a try. Sandwiched the $20 in between the id and credit card, and asked at the desk for any complimentary upgrades. The $20 was put on the counter, while they checked to see what was available. Instead of a standard room on floors 10-16, I received a room with Panoramic view on the 29th floor. The other guys in our group tried this as well (we checked in at the same time), and they received the same upgrade for their room. Will always try this on future trips to Vegas!

Booked hotwire for about half off. Got to counter, middle 30's gentleman -- asked for complementary upgrade. He put the bill aside saying he wouldn't take it unless I was happy with what he offered..uh-oh. And sure enough he declined all upgrade offers I asked for, even for panoramic view. He said he could only offer it for an extra 30 per night. I looked unhappy and kindly asked for anything else he could do, and I kept haggling at it for awhile and somehow he caved. Totally unexpected. It was the lowest floor of the panoramic view but it was one nonetheless!

Was upgraded to a "Panoramic" room, typically $30-$50/night upcharge. I normally pay extra for this option because the view is great, but on this occasion I had used a coupon code that was only good for a Standard room. Upgrading to Panoramic when I initially booked would have cost over $200/night. Also given chocolates the next afternoon and free breakfast for four days. $50 very well spent.

There seems to be a ton of people saying the sandwich trick will not work at Wynn properties. This is definitely not the case! I checked in on a Sunday around 6 PM for a 4 night stay. My package was 1 night comped and 3 nights at casino rate ($149/night) in a standard Resort King room at Encore, set up though my executive host (I am a Red Card holder and definitely not a high roller). I handed the check in lady a $50 sandwich and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. She let the $50 fall on her monitor, where it stayed for the entire transaction. She said she would check and asked if I was celebrating anything special. I told her we were celebrating my wife's birthday (which was actually a month away). The woman asked where my wife was and I said she was still in the parking garage (which was true - she was too embarrassed to be with me when I tried this trick). She also asked if I had any preferences. I said something high and with a nice view of the strip. I ended up with a Tower Suite King on the 54th floor. The view to the left was of the golf course, straight ahead was the Wynn, and to the right of that we could see down the strip. It was a fantastic view. Checking out the rates online, this was a $90 per night upgrade, so we saved $360 total! I was hoping the $50 would get me a salon suite upgrade like it did for Rene - maybe if my wife was actually with me it would have.

I had a reservation for 3 nights in a standard room at the Wynn, booked it through Hotwire. We arrived at my birthday (august 6, 2013). I slipped a $50 bill between my CC & ID and asked the lady at the reception desk if she probably had some complimentary upgrades available. She asked us to wait for a minute and went to another office. When she came back she said "congratulations with your birthday, I have a very nice upgrade for you to a Salon Suite on the 36th floor, would that be good for you". Well ofcourse that was good. We even got 2 passes for the Wynnn buffet for free. Amazing upgrade!

Did the $20 samwich between the i.d. & credit card. And wala got a panoramic view of the strip , the difference was $50 per night for the room w/ a view. So for 4 nights that is $200, saved $180 with the $20 trick. The front desk guy in his late 20's thanked me and shook my hand afterwards.

This is for the Encore. When checking in I stacked a $20 on top of my ID and asked if she had any complimentary room upgrades available. She said "I can certainly help you with that" and set the $20 next to the monitor. She said "Yes I can get you something very nice. Smoking or non smoking" I asked for non and she asked "Do you want a view of the mountains or the strip?" We chose the strip. She said she's put us really high up as well and we were wayyy up there. Every time we shared an elevator up to our room we'd smile as couple after couple got off before us until we were the only ones left riding to the top! A small smirk of satisfaction. She was so helpful and nice that I tossed an extra $5 at her as we were leaving and said "You've been so very helpful thank you!" Our room was spectacular! We looked down over every other hotel in Vegas! The view at night was unbelievable! A few hours later we received a ring on our doorbell and I opened the door to find a room service cart which the lady wheeled in. It was chilled champagne and hand dipped strawberries (with little tuxedo designs) compliments of the lady who helped us at the front desk. It made our stay that much better. I can think of a lot worse ways I've spent $25

Slipped the folded $20 between passport and credit card and said I'd be grateful if she could find us something nice like a panoramic room on a high floor. She laughed a bit - not sure if that was because she was nervous or whether she was lauging at me nervously trying the $20 trick for the first time! Anyway she did a search and found us a very nice room on a high floor with a great view. I'm not totally convinced I couldn't have got this by just asking nicely, but still we got a $20 dollar-a-night upgrade on a 7 night stay for just $20 - so I'm happy to have tried it! Will definitely try again and will hopefully be a bit more confident next time!

I replied "yes, for whatever you're able to do for us." She said "no, no, we're not allowed to take money...but let me see what I can do about an upgrade." She ended up upgrading us to a panoramic view room on one of the top floors, for free.

Our reservation was made on Hotwire, so I wasn't sure if we would get anything. I handed the clerk my CC and DL along with $20 and told her that was for her. She said, "don't you think you should wait and see what I can do for you?" and handed it back to me. She asked what we wanted and I said, strip view, high floor, close to the elevator. She typed in her computer for a minute and offered up a panoramic (54th floor) corner suite. She apologized that it was not near the elevator, but the room had floor to ceiling windows on 2 walls... facing southeast and northwest. Great room!

Went and got a couple of green chips in the casino before check-in. Desk was busy, and took about 15-20 to get to a clerk. When I got up there, I was rolling the chip around my hand, dangling it over the desk, etc. I asked if they had any complimentary upgrades as I handed her my license and credit card while flashing the chip. She said the upgrade to the panoramic suite was $20/night, and she would throw in some club passes as well. I dropped the chip on the monitor as I was leaving, and she said "sir, you dropped your chip." I told her it was for her, and she said "Oh, thanks!", so I have zero idea if she even recognized what I was doing or trying to do. There was also a supervisor-type character near the clerk, so perhaps this was an issue as well. All in all, I will try the physical 20 rather than a chip next time.

Ok so this is actually for TRUMP hotel but you guys don't have it in your list... so hopefully you update that. Anyhow, I tipped the desk guy $20 and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. He looked for a second and asked if I wanted a bigger room or a better view. I went for the bigger room, then he also offered a late check out. The room was incredible, best room I ever stayed in before. I also want to note that I wasn't even paying full price to begin with for the standard room as I used Priceline to pick my own rate! Great experience, I will try this at every hotel I stay at in Vegas from now on.

This is actually Planet Hollywood. I did not see the choice, figured you would look here if it was Wynn Hotel. Checked in Sunday at 800pm with wife. Not crowded, several people ahead, but moving quickly. Watched the desk clerks for the one that looked friendlier than others, spotted a dark haired 20-something girl being cheerful and outgoing. Did not want the 20-something guy with an attitude about him, just looked bad news. Just my luck, was next in line for the dark haired girl. Stepped up, said "great place here", she said thanks with a big ol' smile and said "welcome to PH" Gave here my name, she asked for a crdit card and id, slid the $20 in between, enough of the 20 showing. She took all three and put them on here computer keyboard ledge. I said what is the possibility of a room upgrade. She said she would gladly check. She looked for a minute or two and said she could put us in a renovated Resort room on the 19th floor, which was an upgrade feom the deluxe, and we could have a strip view of the Bellagio fountains. I said thanks and that would be great. She then said she could only accept the $20 if I thought she was doing a good job not for the upgrade. I said she was doing a great job and it was my pleasure to tip her. She sent us off and it was a fantastic room and a great view! The trip began in a wonderful fashion and it was a very enjoyable trip! Thanks!

We stayed on a Monday in July. Not only were we not given our upgrade, we weren't even given our booked room. I had requested a king non-smoking well in advance. Our plane was delayed, so I called to let them know we would be checking in late (8pm), but were definitely arriving and still wanted the King N/S. Now on a July Monday, we were given a smoking room. Not a single non-smoking room to be had - in the entire hotel!
