So surprised that this worked!!!! I am in Vegas for 5 nights and decided to give this a try since over the length of my stay any upgrade would be an awesome deal. While in line I panicked when I saw the agents were only asking for ID, so I just slipped the bill under my ID when I placed it on the counter and mentioned to the agent I was interested in an upgrade. I am the least smooth person in the world, but it worked! Upgraded to a strip view with complimentary champagne. I made it a point to turn on the charm. So glad I found this!!!

Handed the $20 sandwiched between ID and credit card. Asked if there is any complementary upgrades or show tickets. Was told no. When handing ID back, receptionist handed $20 back to me just as subtly as I handed it to him. Had a hard time getting show tickets I was entitled to with my booking (I used a promo). At least I got the $20 back. The rooms we got were what we paid for at least and they were fine.

This worked well for what we wanted. I was skeptical that it wouldn't work since there were no reports of recent successful attempts. But unlike others I was expecting a complete upgrade, just nicer room for the current room category and some other service request. Handed the cash as suggested and the supervisor noticed and engaged us in a good conversation trying to understand our needs and helped the check in girl with the process of setting up our stay per our needs. Champagne was also arranged and sent when we wanted. To me there is nothing wrong in doing this and you need to think this as tipping ahead of the services provided which I normally do.

Had previously called to add notes to my room to state that I was coming for my 30th birthday and was proposing to my girlfriend. Put the $50 on the desk and advised the women to check my room notes and that if she could take care of me then I would take care of her. I told her I wanted a room with a tub and that I didn't care about floor number or view. She made numerous phone calls to housekeeping and mgmt and finally said a room with a tub would be $50 a night extra. It seems afterwards when I checked how much the room would have been anyway she deducted the 50 from the total price. I wanted the room anyways and was willing to pay for it but was hoping the $50 would get me a break at least. I've worked front desk for 5 years and know that tipping helps. The agents at TI front desk seem to be a little clueless. Would not recommend.

And she gave us our room with a amazing view the champagne. And food credits. It worked just like everyone on here said it does.

Had bland tower suite booked was hoping for available luxury suite of same size just more funished. Asked if $40 more would get us luxury and added thst it would and we would be very satisfied. She said how we have been upgrsged to higher floor(blah blah) and not to open the special envelope till we get to our room. Envelop was full of 2 for 1 fliers and useless junk. Don't sandwich TIsland. BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sitting in room now.... highly disappointed!!!!! PS. No pirate show to see from window. Just a couple better hotels.

We slipped the girl at the counter a $20 sandwiched between my ID and credit card and asked if there were any complimentary room upgrades. She also gave us a free bottle of champagne, 2 free buffet coupons, 2 free drinks at Gilley's, and some other coupons for Kahunaville that we never used. We arrived fairly late at night, around 10pm, so the check in area was fairly deserted. Before walking up the counter, we quite obviously fumbled around with a $20 bill as I blatantly created the "sandwich." Noticing the production we were up to, a very excited ~30 year old man enthusiastically waved his arm and called us over to his station at the check in counter. He greeted us with a big smile, and I handed him the sandwich, asking "Could you check to see if there are any complimentary upgrades available?" Without hesitation, he said "Yes, of course! We're gonna hook you up, just give me one moment." He began furiously typing away, and with a quick check with the manager on duty, he said he was able to upgrade us to a corner room, strip view on a high floor. In addition, he comped us two buffets, and handed us another buy one get one free coupon for the buffet (each buffet being about $25 a person). The room itself appeared to be the same layout as a standard room, however it included massive wraparound windows that gave us an incredible, sweeping view of the strip. Additionally, being on a higher floor, we had a much smaller, private band of elevators that only serviced a handful of floors. We will definitely be trying this one again, as the buffets alone were well worth the $20. The room was just an added bonus.

The $20 trick worked fairly well. I handed her my ID and CC with the $20 in there and my girlfriend and i proceeded to make small talk with the nice woman behind the desk. I was hoping for a Petite suite, but instead we were upgraded to the corner room on a high floor with a strip view. I think I like the better view rather than a suite on non-strip side. They also offered a free bottle of champagne which we took advantage of. The kicker? She also waived the resort fee! So for $20 we got a better room, bottle of champagne, and saved $84 on the resort fee!

Checked in on a Tuesday morning. Front desk clerk was a young Caucasian girl, petite build, early to mid 20's, with red streaks in her hair. Handed her a $50 sandwiched between my ID and credit card (I opted for $50 because my stay was for 8 days) and without being prompted, started to type on her keyboard and stated, "Let me check to see if there are any upgrades available..." As she continued to type, she asked why we were visiting Las Vegas and we told her that we were getting married (the truth.) She added in a complimentary bottle of champagne along with 2 for 1 coupons for drinks and the buffet. As for the room, we ended up with a corner room on the 28th floor (we were originally slated for the 15th floor,) with two sets of windows for a fantastic view of the strip and the pirate show. The room would've cost an additional $40/day so the $50 front desk tip was an absolute steal!

I checked in around 2 am and it was a ghost town, I slipped the $20 between my ID and CC, and asked if any upgrades were available. The young gentleman was estatic and went above and for me and my gf. He gave me the option with a suite w/ no view, or a standard room with a panoramic view. We chose the view and were happy with our choice. He also gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne and free buffet passes, and bottle services at Club Tao if needed. I highly recommend this trick.

Got a Strip View Room to start with just in case since our flight wasn't arriving in Vegas until 11PM that night. The week before Christmas is slow in Las Vegas. With this in mind, I was confident that the $20 trick would work. It did. My package was for the cheapest room with a 3 PM check-in time. The front desk clerk took the sandwich and started typing furiously on his computer. My reward was an early check in and a complimentary upgrade to a tower deluxe room. It's basically a normal room with 12 foot ceilings. They are on the 36th floor, the only one needing a room card for elevator access. I also got the free champagne.

This was our first time to try this and it worked! It was a busy weekend and we checked in late so we weren't expecting much. When we handed the $20 to the check-in lady, she smiled and said she'd try her best. She was able to give a strip view room and moved us up to a higher floor and one that was closer to the elevator. She said that was the best she could do so she threw in a bottle of champagne and asked if there was anything else we needed, but we were happy with that :)

The 30ish girl wasn't paying much attention until she saw the $20 bill. She took it and sat it beside her key board and became very chatty. I put the $20 between my passport and my credit card, handed it to the check-in clerk and nicely asked if they had any uprgades. The clerk took the $20 and put it back on the counter and said to "leave that there for now" and went to work. He moved us from floor 7 up to 25 and put us in a corner unit....not the suit I wanted but well worth the $20! He also gave us 2 extra 2-for-1 buffet passes (saved us $25/meal) so that alone was worth the $20. When I left the desk I left the $20 on the counter...I guess if you "forget" your money they have "no choice" but to clean off the counter before the next person comes up to check in. Next time I won't try to give him the money...just put it on the counter nicely folded up, let him see it and cover it with a piece of paper that I will leave for him to "clean up" after I leave. I will try the $20 "handshake" on my car rental next time!

There weren't any check-in clerks that looked "good", so we just went with who we got. We ended up with a black female named Ashley. I handed Ashley my credit card and ID with a $20 sandwiched in between. As I did so, I asked her if they had any complementary upgrades. She took the "sandwich" and placed it on the counter next to her. I mentioned that we were hoping for a larger room (like the Tower Suite) since we were there for a bachelorette party, and the bride was staying in this room and we'd likely be entertaining about 10 girls in there. She then tried to tell me that the petite suite was bigger than the tower suite (which is not true -- the tower suite is 300 sq. ft. larger). She also told me there was nothing available (even though I had checked the website moments before, and saw that they were still offering Tower Suites for the weekend). She said there was one Tower Suite, but that it was reserved for Sunday (the day we were checking out anyway... so that didn't make any sense). We ended up with the room we booked. And even worse? She KEPT the $20!

Slipped the twenty between the plastics and asked for a complimentary upgrade and was offered a suite on the 35 floor. We were also given a complimentary bottle of champagne, which was a nice start to our trip. Also, during the course of the week, we received a message on our phone offering us Buy 1, Get 1 Free tickets to see Cirque du Soleil Mystere - I'm not sure if that had anything to do with our upgrade or the floor we were on. This trick worked very well. It was super busy checking in so I wasn't sure it would work. We had 3 nights booked in the cheapest rooms available. I wrapped the $20 bill around a credit card, asked her if it was possible to get adjoining rooms for both our rooms. It took a good 15 minutes to find a good room but she ended up upgrading us to strip view, on penthouse floor with adjoining rooms & 2 queen beds each. The rooms were great! Super clean with vaulted ceilings with the view of Trump tower & Fashion Show Mall. At Treasure Island the 31st to 36th floors have their own elevators so we didn't have to use the same ones as the rest of the "lower level" roomed guests! Worked like a charm!!! Ok, so we basically tried this trick twice as we drove to Vegas and tried to check in at 6am but were told to wait until 'early' check-in around 11am. In any case, at 6am we tried this with one dorky nerdy clerk who left the money hanging on the table forever but did give us a 'better' view... this guy was a real dork though, so it's better not to even bother because he looked as he was about to pass-out from the fear of being caught taking the $20! Anyway, so the next morning (well, same morning but it seemed like the next because we spent three hours sleeping in the car!) we went back and saw a huge line (so much for the 11am earliest check-in - this was at 10.30am!)... anyway, finally made it to the front and got some confident guy and we slipped him the money and he upgraded us to a CORNER room with a beautiful view of the strip (Venetian, Wynn, Mirage and TI Pool)... all in all, worth the total $40 we spent. I guess it worked =) Caution: watch out for the nerds!!! Ps: We also got a complementary bottle of champagne which we politely declined!! (ahh, straight-edge baby!)

This was my first time trying the $20 trick and I was a little apprehensive. When checking in we at first received a standard view room on a lower floor. I explained that we were there for a special occasion and asked if they did anything special for birthdays. The clerk said she would send up a bottle of champagne. I then asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available and slipped a $20 bill to the person checking us in. She smiled, did some magic on her keyboard and said she could upgrade us to a strip view room on the 32nd floor w/ a key required elevator. She said the room was normally $30 more a night. She also arranged for us to call room service any time we wanted the champagne. The view from the room was fantastic overlooking the pool and great strip view. It was a pleasant experience!

I checked in on a Thursday afternoon, and tried the $20 Trick. The hotel was out of suites, but they allowed me to pick a room with a fantastic view and also gave me a complimentary bottle of champagne. I was satisfied even though it wasn't a suite upgrade!

was staying for 7 nights so thought $20 would get me know where. was offered a room on top floor but told some work going on up there so went for 31st floor, got a strip view. not a suite but was very nice. think the $20 would have gotten me the same room though.

We we planning on staying for 2 nights @ Treasure Island on our anniversary. We had a bad experience at the Luxor the day before and Talking to the lady at the desk just laughinh about how horrible it was and how it was my Husbands first time in Vegas, I Sliped her my ID, Credit card and a $20 in between.. She sd that she will make sure we have an amazing 2 nights here and upgraded us to the Tower King suite with a free bottle of Champagne sent to our room. It took a min to realize that you need to slide the key in the elevator to access the very top floor.. It was a pretty wild experience.
